ANIMAL BITES and RABIES CONTROL

Rabies is a serious viral disease that can affect any warm-blooded mammal including people. The virus is spread through the saliva of an infected animal. Because rabies is an incurable, fatal disease once symptoms begin, it is imperative victims obtain prompt medical treatment.

State law requires all animal bites be reported to the local health department for tracking and monitoring purposes. The biting animal is then quarantined or tested for the rabies virus. Victims are informed of the seriousness of the disease and the outcome of the quarantine or lab results.
